Resizing a Batch of Images: iLoveIMG, BIRME, or MyTools?
iLoveIMG vs BIRME vs MyTools for resizing images in bulk: which sizing modes each one gives you, what leaves your device, and which fits the batch on your desk.
Every online image resizer can make an image smaller. That part is solved. What separates them is what you're allowed to ask for — a number in pixels, a percentage of the original, or "whatever Instagram wants this week" — and whether your photos have to travel to a server to get it done.

- Cloud drives are wired in. Pull images straight from Google Drive or Dropbox and send the results back, saving a download-then-reupload round trip when the batch lives in a shared folder.
Where it falls short
- Your images go to their servers. Fine for holiday snaps; worth a thought for anything with a face, an address or a document in it. It also means a big batch has to finish uploading before anything starts happening.
- The free tier has a ceiling, and lifting it is the paid tier's job. Free use is capped on batch and file size, with a Premium plan — around $4 a month — removing the limits. Occasional resizing never notices. A Monday-morning habit does.
- No platform presets. For the third kind of request, you're looking up Instagram's current story dimensions yourself.
BIRME: The Batch Specialist
BIRME — Bulk Image Resizing Made Easy — has been doing one job since 2013, and it's the job in its name. It runs entirely in JavaScript in your browser, so it shares MyTools' privacy posture rather than iLoveIMG's.
What it gets right
- Built for hundreds of files, not five. The whole interface assumes a large batch: a grid of thumbnails, one set of settings across all of them, a ZIP at the end. It chews through folders that make lighter tools stutter.
- Nothing is uploaded. Same as MyTools — images stay on your machine, no account, no install. If privacy is why you're reading this, BIRME is a real answer, not an also-ran.
- The extras are genuinely useful. Bulk rename, borders, watermarking, quality control, and auto focal-point detection that tries to keep the interesting part of the frame when cropping to your target. That's more than MyTools offers.
Where it falls short
- Pixel dimensions, and essentially that's it. There's no percentage mode, so "half the size, all of them" means computing dimensions by hand — or accepting that differently-sized images get forced to identical ones.
- It keeps your EXIF data. Camera model, timestamps and, if your phone recorded them, GPS coordinates ride along into the resized files. Worth knowing for photos headed to a public website.
- The workflow is crop-to-fill by default, and the interface is dense in a way that rewards regulars. People who wanted a simple proportional scale sometimes leave with unexpectedly cropped images.
MyTools: Presets Without the Upload
The image resizer here treats all three requests as equals and does the work in your browser rather than on a server.
What it gets right
- All three sizing modes, side by side. Exact pixels with an optional aspect-ratio lock, percentage scaling, or one of eleven named presets — Instagram post, story and landscape, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube thumbnail, Pinterest pin, profile photo, HD and 4K. That third mode is the gap in both tools above.
- Nothing leaves your device, and there's no ceiling. Resizing runs through the browser's Canvas API: no upload, no server queue, no free-tier cap stopping you at image twenty-one. Once the page has loaded it keeps working offline.
- Sensible guards by default. "Don't upscale" is on, so images already smaller than the target aren't blown up into mush, and a fit/fill/stretch control decides what happens when your target's proportions don't match the source.
Where it falls short
- No quality slider, and the output format is chosen for you. Files are re-encoded at a fixed high quality — the right default for most people, but BIRME lets you tune it and this doesn't. PNGs stay PNGs and WebP stays WebP, but AVIF, BMP and GIF all come out as JPEG, so you can't resize and convert to a format of your choosing in one pass.
- Three gotchas worth knowing. An animated GIF comes back as a single still frame; "fit" mode pads with white rather than transparency, so a PNG logo letterboxed into a preset gains a white background; and iPhone-native HEIC files aren't accepted at all, so they need converting first.
- None of BIRME's batch extras. No bulk rename, borders, watermarking, cloud-drive import, or saving your own preset. Very large batches are also bound by your device's memory, since your laptop is doing the work rather than someone's server farm.

Picking by Job
- You need SVG, or the batch lives in Google Drive. iLoveIMG, straightforwardly. Neither of the others does either, and no amount of privacy makes up for a tool that won't open your file.
- You're processing two hundred photos and renaming them. BIRME. It was designed for this, the rename and border controls save real time, and the files stay local. Strip the EXIF afterwards if they're going somewhere public.
- You need an exact platform size, or a percentage, and you'd rather not upload. MyTools. The presets remove the lookup step and percentage mode is there when you need proportional.
- You want a precise output file size. None of these three — that's a compression job rather than a resize one, and compressing the images with a quality dial and a live preview is the better route.
Worth stating plainly, because this is where comparisons like this get lazy: BIRME and MyTools both keep your images on your machine, and iLoveIMG doesn't. That's a genuine tie at the top, not a MyTools exclusive — and if you need bulk renaming more than you need presets, BIRME is the better tool.
